Sketchbook Project: Summer’s Ghost

A girl put together with sea foam, daisies and fire ant venom.  Far too brutal a love to be anything but a summer ghost.

  1. I love how the fire ants glow!!! What’s your theme for the Sketchbook Project?

    • Rubin Pingk

My theme was “The Grey Side of Life” but I have abandoned it. Now my theme is probably Bugs and Beauties? I don’t know. I am charmed with the idea that a woman can be so graceful with fearful, creepy things. Or that a beautiful person can be covered in something unsettling.

  2. Utterly luminescent and so strangely unperturbed by these stinging creatures! Odd gorgeousness!

    • Rubin Pingk

I know, right? They look so stingy and burny. Thank you!

  3. Bella Sinclair

Rubin, your descriptions are as poetic as your illustrations. That’s a terrific combination of colors. Quite electrifying. Is anyone else besides me feeling itchy?

    Have a great Thanksgiving!

    • Rubin Pingk

I’m always itchy in the winter. Maybe that’s why I’m into the bugs lately? 🙂

  4. Hey Rubin!! Sorry I have been away for so long… but it’s good to take a pause and see all the amazing things people create while we are gone (right? you know what I mean?! hehe) so here I am and wow… your work is brilliant. I don’t know how you do it, but you improve with time (like a good red wine, I guess!! hehe) Really dig this one.. the light on the ants… haaa… like!!! and the texture too… very very sweet! 🙂

    • Rubin Pingk

No biggie. I’m glad you come by at all! Thanks!

  5. the ants are beautiful! Well, the whole drawing is but with the ants it’s magical! And the texture on her skin – super!

    • Rubin Pingk

      Thank you nancy.

  6. Roz Nerdahl

You, yourself know, how long I have been a fan of the one and only Mr. Rubin Pingk!!! I want to get a print of this picture, with the artist’s signature of course, frame it and hang in my house.
